Halibut Point Trail Map
The official Halibut Point maps are PDFs: DCR's park map and trail map on mass.gov, the map in DCR's Babson Farm Quarry self-guided brochure, and The Trustees' trail map for their reservation. The Trustees say a paper brochure with a map of both properties is handed out at the gatehouse and the visitor center, but supplies run out, so save a copy on your phone before you go. The Trustees list 2.5 miles of trails at Halibut Point, so this is a small place.

How the Map Reads
DCR's brochure map uses a scale bar that runs only to 800 feet. Its legend separates four kinds of land: Halibut Point State Park (DCR), Halibut Point Reservation (The Trustees), Sea Rocks (Town of Rockport) and private land. It marks the regular trails, the self-guided quarry trail, paved and unpaved roads, restrooms, the parking lot, and the visitor center tower.
The legend names two roads, Route 127 (Granite Street) and Gott Avenue, and also labels the park entrance, Folly Cove and the Atlantic Ocean. The map in the brochure is the only layout this page describes; open the PDFs for the details.
The Routes in Words
- Lot to quarry loop: DCR's Babson Farm Quarry Trail, 0.7 mile, easy. Follow the numbered markers 1 to 10 (quarry guide).
- Ledges and tide pools: The Trustees describe ledges to scramble across and tide pools to examine.
- Along the shore: The Trustees' reservation is part of Rockport's Atlantic Path, which continues along the coast toward Pigeon Cove (hiking).
Map Tips
- Download before you leave home. The Trustees recommend a photo of the map on your phone.
- Don't count on a paper copy; supplies at the gatehouse and visitor center periodically run out.
- DCR notes that some trails may not be well marked and some may not be on a map. Stick to the ones that are.
- The grout pile on the quarry loop is not a trail. DCR asks you not to climb its sides.
Accessibility on the Map
DCR lists the park as wheelchair accessible with graded hiking paths, and its 2021 improvements put an accessible stone-dust surface on the main entrance path. The shore is natural rock ledge. Call the park to ask which routes suit your needs; details on parking.
