Parking & Directions
Halibut Point State Park's parking lot is at 4 Gott Avenue, Rockport, MA 01966, at the park entrance in Pigeon Cove. It holds about 70 cars, according to The Trustees. In 2026 DCR charges a daily parking fee from May 23 to October 12: $5 for a car with Massachusetts plates and $20 for any other plate. From November through April there is no parking fee. The Trustees say pedestrians and bicyclists pay nothing.
Halibut Point Parking at a Glance
Parking Fees
DCR sets the fee by your license plate, not by where you live. A Massachusetts plate pays $5; every other plate pays $20. The fee is charged daily during the season DCR posts each year, which for 2026 runs May 23 to October 12. The Trustees describe their side's fee season more loosely as May through October. Go by DCR's dates, since the lot is DCR's.
- Pay by phone: DCR accepts mobile payment through the YODEL app (DCR's YODEL FAQ).
- Annual pass: DCR sells an annual parking pass for its state parks.
- Seniors: Massachusetts residents can get DCR's lifetime senior parking pass.
- The Trustees say their members park free. Put your membership card on the dashboard with the member details showing.
When the Lot Is Full
This is the part that catches people. The Trustees say that from Memorial Day through Labor Day, once the lot fills it closes for a two-hour window, and waiting at the gate is not allowed. With room for about 70 cars, plan on the lot being the limit on a summer visit.
- Arrive early. DCR opens the park at 8:00 am.
- Have a backup plan: downtown Rockport and Bearskin Neck are a short drive back down Route 127, and you can return when the lot reopens.
- Follow posted signs, as DCR's visitor guidelines ask.
Directions to Gott Avenue
The Trustees give these directions: from Route 128, take Route 127 north for 3 miles. At Rockport center, turn left onto Railroad Avenue, which is still Route 127, and follow it for 2.4 miles. Turn right onto Gott Avenue. The state park entrance and parking are on the right.
Route 127 is called Granite Street on DCR's quarry map where it passes the end of Gott Avenue. If your GPS asks for an address, use 4 Gott Avenue, Rockport, MA 01966.
From the Lot to the Quarry and the Ocean

DCR repaved the lot in 2021 and gave the main entrance pathway a stabilized stone-dust surface for accessibility. From the lot, the main path leads to the visitor center tower and the Babson Farm Quarry. The ledges and tide pools are beyond the quarry, toward the water.
DCR's 2021 construction notes mention a Gaffield Road entrance that visitors were directed to use during the work. They don't say whether it is open now, so use the Gott Avenue entrance.
Accessible Parking
DCR lists the park as wheelchair accessible, and its 2021 project added an accessible stone-dust surface on the main entrance pathway. Call the park office at (978) 546-2997 before you go to confirm where accessible parking is today.
Hours
The park and its lot are open 8:00 am to sunset, year-round. See hours for the visitor center schedule.
