Hiking at Halibut Point
Hiking at Halibut Point is short and coastal: 2.5 miles of trails at Halibut Point, according to The Trustees. DCR's recommended hike is the easy 0.7-mile Babson Farm Quarry loop from the Gott Avenue lot. The shore has granite ledges and tide pools. For something harder, Rockport's Atlantic Path runs along the coast toward Pigeon Cove; DCR's fall 2026 trek on it is a challenging 4-mile outing from Halibut Point to Pigeon Cove and back.
Trails at a Glance
Babson Farm Quarry Loop (Easy)

This is DCR's one introductory hike for the park: a 0.7-mile loop, rated easy, starting at the Gott Avenue lot. It follows wide gravel paths around the flooded quarry with ten numbered history stops. At DCR's average pace of 1.5 miles an hour, the loop takes about half an hour before you stop to read anything. Full guide: Babson Farm Quarry.
Down to the Ledges
The Trustees invite visitors to scramble across the ledges and examine the tide pools, and they call their trails moderate walking. See tide pools for what's there and how to time it.
The Atlantic Path (Challenging)
The Trustees describe their reservation as one link in Rockport's Atlantic Path, a public way along the shore. DCR's fall 2026 program schedule includes an Atlantic Path trek from Halibut Point to Pigeon Cove and back, about 4 miles, and its advisory is blunt: a challenging trek along an uneven, rocky coastline, with long pants recommended because of thick brush, no amenities along the way, ages 12 and up.
DCR titles the trek Keep Paths Public. Its brochure map has a legend entry for private land, so follow posted signs. If you want to try the path, DCR's trek was listed for Sunday, November 15 in fall 2026.
Folly Cove and Sea Rocks
DCR's brochure map labels Folly Cove, and its legend lists Sea Rocks as Town of Rockport land. According to the brochure, the Rockport Granite Company's engine, the Nella, hauled granite from the quarry to the pier at Folly's Cove.
Before You Go
- Wear sturdy shoes and layers; DCR's hiking advice asks for both.
- Bring water. DCR warns drinking water may not be available on site.
- Stay on designated trails, and keep groups to 12 or fewer, as DCR asks.
- Carry out all trash.
- Keep dogs on a leash no longer than 10 feet, and pick up after them.
- Leave bikes at home. DCR doesn't allow bicycles, scooters or boards in the park.
Good For
- Families and first-time visitors: the quarry loop is short and DCR rates it easy.
- Bird watchers: DCR runs one-mile Birding Basics walks on gravel terrain.
- Experienced walkers who want rough shoreline: the Atlantic Path.
Maybe Skip If
- You want a long woods hike. Halibut Point's trails are short; pair the visit with the rest of Rockport instead.
- You want a beach walk. Long Beach is about a mile long.
